Masters of the Payments Industry

- 17 high potential Worldpay employees graduate from Middlesex University

- Celebrations mark the success of Worldpay’s pioneering Masters Programme

Worldpay, a leader in global payments, is pleased to announce that the first ever students of Worldpay’s newly created Master’s Degree in Management in the International Payments Ecosystem graduated today at a ceremony in central London after two years of study at Middlesex University London.

The Master’s Degree – the first of its kind in the payments sector – was created in 2015 by the Worldpay Academy and Middlesex University’s Business School and has allowed 17 Worldpay employees to combine their existing professional business learnings of the international payments industry with academic research and teachings, while also developing core competencies in leadership and management.

Today, the Worldpay cohort of 2015 made the journey to central London to receive their graduation certificates from Professor Tim Blackman, Middlesex University’s Vice Chancellor at the university’s first Winter Graduation awards ceremony.

Worldpay employees continued to work while they studied, using a mix of online, face-to-face and workplace study. In line with the Middlesex University ethos of transforming potential into success, the Worldpay graduates were chosen for the Master’s Degree programme based on their performance rather than past academic achievement, and studied topics including payment industry fundamentals, business strategy, management perspectives and research methods.

Andy Doyle, Chief HR Officer at Worldpay, said: “Creating our own Masters Programme over the last two years has been an incredible journey, culminating in today’s celebrations with our first graduates. They are an absolute credit to Worldpay and we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the tremendous support of Middlesex University and the Worldpay Development Team. If you invest in your people, the return is truly exponential.”

Professor Blackman, Middlesex University’s Vice Chancellor, said: “As a university for skills, Middlesex transforms lives with our long history of working with business to meet the skills needs of the future. We strive to make sure that everyone with the potential to benefit can access higher education, and that higher education demonstrates its value by driving productivity and growth.

“With a strong track record of work and practice-based learning, Middlesex collaborates with industry leaders such as Worldpay to develop higher qualifications that help to address the UK’s skills shortages.

“I’m very proud of the Worldpay students who have graduated with a Middlesex University Master’s Degree today. I have no doubt they will make a significant and positive impact to Worldpay, to the payments sector, and to the economy.”
