What is a card reader?

A mobile card reader is a great way for businesses to start taking credit card, debit card, contactless and mobile payments in a flexible, scalable way using a mobile phone or tablet. The pocket-sized card reader pairs with the Worldpay POS app on your mobile device, and uses WiFi or mobile data to process card and contactless payments. It means you can take payments with your Worldpay Reader anywhere you have signal.

Apply online for a Worldpay Reader account. Once approved** you’ll receive your Worldpay account details, and your card reader in the post soon afterwards.

Download the app to your smart phone or tablet and log-in with your account details.

FAQ’s

How do I pair the card reader with the app?

In the Worldpay POS app menu, go to Settings and select ‘Update keypad settings’. On your card reader keypad, hold the green tick down for five seconds to enable the reader to be discovered by the app on your device. While the blue light is rapidly flashing at the top right of the reader, it will appear in the list of Bluetooth devices on the right in your app. Select your Worldpay Reader from the list to pair, press the green tick on the reader again and press confirm in the app.

Which devices are compatible with Worldpay POS and Worldpay Reader?

With Worldpay Reader all transactions are processed with help from the app. You can use your product catalogue or make a custom sale. Which cards are accepted?

All major debit and credit cards are accepted, including Visa, Mastercard, China Union Pay, JCB and Diners. American Express can be added on request.

How does a mobile card reader work?

Card readers are powered by an app or software: Unlike traditional card terminals, they do not work stand-alone. The Worldpay Reader pairs with the Worldpay POS app via blue-tooth, which allows you to set up the payment and set the transaction amount. The card reader then securely captures your customer’s card details, and the app sends the transaction to us for processing.

What happens if my card reader breaks down?

If your card reader breaks or isn’t working, the first step is to call our 24 hour support desk on 0345 761 62 63 who can help you troubleshoot or arrange a replacement.

Does the card reader accept contactless payments?

Yes, contactless payments are accepted with Visa, Mastercard, Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Other cards may require chip and pin payment.
