Worldpay Online Payments Integrates Effortlessly to Drive Success for Wookey Hole Caves

Wookey Hole Caves is the name of a sprawling tourist attraction and hospitality group centered around the eponymous world-famous caves. Taken over recently by circus owner Gerry Cottle, the company has benefited from a multi-million pound makeover. It now includes the spectacular limestone caves, Bucklegrove Holiday Park, Wookey Hole Hotel and Mendip View Luxury Lodges.

In high demand

Wookey Hole is one of the UK’s best-known and most popular tourist attractions, pulling in crowds of around 250,000 each year. As a result, Wookey Hole Caves needed a fast, easy-to-use, secure and robust payments system to process online transactions. However, its previous provider fell out of favour because of high charges and an inability to integrate across existing systems.

The firm has a large and complex estate of payments, EPOS, booking and property management platforms which all need to work together to ensure the business runs smoothly.

Wookey Hole Caves was therefore looking for a trusted provider offering a seamless and more cost-effective option for online payments, which could also fit neatly into its existing set-up. It was important not only for the firm to reduce its costs but also minimise the time staff spent managing orders, according to duty manager, Chris Goodchild.

Feature-rich payments

Wookey Hole Caves chose Worldpay Online Payments to power internet-based transactions across the organization. It offered the firm a host of improvements over its existing provider including:

  • Clear, competitive pricing: thanks to a simple PAYG or monthly rate
  • Real-time data: to help grow the business, via a simple-to-use portal
  • Security: fully PCI compliant and featuring built-in fraud prevention
  • Robust, 24/7 platform
  • Simple and speedy setup
  • UK-based support

Smooth and simple

Set up was “really smooth and easy” thanks to a simple, RESTful API and multi-language SDKs and roll-out happened without a hitch to all the firm’s sites, according to Goodchild. Crucially, Worldpay has integrated perfectly into Wookey Hole Caves’ existing systems, improving back-end efficiencies and simplifying the user experience for both customers and staff.

“Keeping everything in one place across the board benefits everyone,” he continues. “It’s faster and quicker and we spend less time on orders than we used to. It’s a lot simpler and easier all round – reconciliation would be a nightmare without Worldpay.”

With fast, simple and secure payments a reality thanks to Worldpay, Wookey Hole Caves can hope to attract visitors in even greater numbers going forward, safe in the knowledge it’s running the most integrated, efficient booking and payment operation possible.
