We launch Talk Travel in London

Secret Escapes, Eurostar, Big Bus Tours, Travelopia, STA Travel and Hostelworld were just six of the high profile merchants from the travel space at our first ever Talk Travel Forum event on 5 February 2018.

It was an exciting day made even more special by the location – the beautiful Drawing Room of The Ned, one of London’s finest heritage hotels. We wanted to get people together in an intimate environment where they could discuss the latest changes and trends, and ask questions. It was the perfect place.

Over the course of the afternoon, Worldpay’s leadership team ran a series of discussions on some of the hottest payment topics the UK’s top travel companies are dealing with, including the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2), seamless travel experience, innovation and optimisation.

High-profile merchants from across the travel space came together to discuss, learn, share and connect. Thomas Helldorff, VP, Vertical Growth for Travel and Airlines spoke at the London-based event, which was the first global Talk Travel - to be followed up in March with a continuation in New York.

Our speaker sessions:

PSD2 will greatly affect travel merchants and the payments industry as a whole. Yet there are still areas of uncertainty. Jonathan Ling, Head of Commercial Legal Team, and Charles Damen, SVP Strategy and Corporate Development, helped our attendees to get to their heads round some of the finer points. We also explained how Worldpay is strengthening its system capabilities so that we can support our merchants and help them to continue to offer their consumers frictionless experiences.

The online payment journey

Thomas Helldorff, our VP of Vertical Growth for the airlines and travel, spoke about the online payment journey in the travel market, including the importance of the right set-up to enable merchants to make the most of ancillary revenue opportunities.

A session on innovation held by Jonathan Vokes, our Innovation Fellow, suggested some opportunities which might come out of the Internet of Things and Virtual Reality – complete with cool demos to show how we are building new technologies which will keep us ahead of the game.

Emma Hartley, Optimisation Manager, also shared some key tips on how to optimise payments and improve acceptance rates.

The new Worldpay

Last but certainly not least, Motie Bring, our GM of Global eCom, spoke about the new Worldpay, which is a result of the recent merger with Vantiv Inc., one of the leading payment processers in the US. With the combined business capabilities and expertise, the new Worldpay will be able to do for our customers more than ever before. Watch this space!

Our guests gave us really fantastic feedback. They enjoyed the format which not only gave them the opportunity to ask questions, but also to hear what’s on the minds of other travel businesses. It helped them to realise that they are not alone.

From Worldpay’s perspective, it’s all about sharing insights and helping our customers to prosper despite the challenges they face. It felt very exciting to have quality face-to-face time with our merchants and to share the latest insights in this lovely setting. We can’t wait until the next one in New York!
