Final reminder: Contactless Floor Limits set to zero

WORLDPAY EDITORIAL TEAM

Background

We previously advised customers to not process contactless transactions offline, and this is a friendly reminder of the Mastercard and Visa mandate to send all contactless transactions online for authorisations in the UK. It’s important to note that Visa also requires contactless transactions to be sent online for authorisations in the Republic of Ireland. This does not affect customers that have terminals provided by Worldpay from FIS, as those transactions do go online.

Payment Brand Rules

Mastercard and Visa have reduced their contactless floor limits to zero in the UK, and Visa has also reduced their contactless floor limits to zero in the Republic of Ireland. Merchants must ensure that their contactless floor limits are set to zero, and that all contactless transactions are sent online for authorisations with the following exemptions:

  • Parking
  • Tolls
  • Transit (including buses, railways, and ferries)
  • Vending (Mastercard only for UK)
  • Charities (UK only)
  • Events (Mastercard only for UK)

Action required by you

The mandate to send all contactless transactions online for authorisation is one that you must comply with because Mastercard and Visa are actively monitoring the processing of contactless transactions. Non-compliance with this mandate could result in a fee imposed by Mastercard or Visa.

If you have already adopted contactless and send your contactless online, or use any Worldpay terminals that are enabled for contactless, you don’t need to do anything.

If you are unsure, it is important to check and confirm that your contactless transactions are going online for processing.
