This was the first ever Rethink UK. Worldpay UK have been running annual customer events for years but this year we brought our former Better Business Conference in to our highly successful ‘Rethink’ portfolio.
The focus for the changes were due to focus on driving engagement and more opportunities for self-customising including a choice of afternoon breakout sessions and extra showcase time. This year’s theme of our event was 'making you a payment rock star' and our mission was to empower our delegates with knowledge that will help them ramp up their payments strategy and make a real impact in their business.
This was an opportunity to redefine how we position ourselves with corporate customers and accelerate our own internal journey towards solution selling. At the heart of this approach was the insight that we needed to support our clients to become 'Payments Rock Stars', empowering them use the potential of payments to help them build and gain buy-in to a pragmatic payments strategy that they can use in their business.
Main plenary sessions included an update on the new Worldpay from Vice Chairman Ron Kalifa, a sneak preview of the 2019 Consumer Behaviour and Payments Report by SVP Marketing Markus Clavin and a look at Open Banking by SVP Corporate Development Charles Damen. We were also joined by rugby legend and ex England captain Martin Johnson who enthralled everyone with his personal account of England’s incredible victory in the 2003 Rugby World Cup. The afternoon breakouts included PSD2, optimisation, Mishipay and hospitality while the showcase featured 16 Worldpay product demonstrations plus partners TruRating and Pennies.
Amongst the 158 customers and prospects who attended Rethink UK, were such well known names as Arcadia, Camelot, Centrica, Debenhams, Harrods, Monsoon, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and TKX. Feedback from those who attended the event was extremely positive with 100% saying they want to attend again and another 100% saying they feel better equipped to formulate a payments strategy.
