What does this mean for my business?

It means you can accept contactless payments under £30 on an Android phone without extra hardware anywhere in the U.K. you have data access (WIFI or 3G/4G).

General

Q: Is this safe?

A: 

We take security seriously and My Business Mobile uses EMV technology, the same used for contactless transactions on traditional card terminals. My Business Mobile only works with secure EMV cards. Along with usual card details, every EMV card tap generates a different set of numbers. This is sent online to the card provider for each transaction for checking, stopping the details being used again.

We encrypt card details in the app and send the encrypted data to our PCI-DSS compliant data centres. Sensitive card details are never stored on the phone.

We also monitor transactions using high tech security software in the app in our servers. We also have teams of people who look at suspicious transactions helped by artificial intelligence. 

Q: Why is this different from Apple Pay?

A: Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Android Pay, are turning your phone into a card which can be tapped on a contactless terminal to make payments. My Business Mobile turns this on its head, turning the phone into a terminal, receiving payments from tapped cards and phones.

Q: How do I sign up to the My Business Mobile Pilot?

A: We’re excited that you’re interested! There is an “Interested” section above with the criteria and a short application form.  

We’ll let you know as soon as we can whether you have been accepted as a pilot customer and what you need to do to next to start accepting contactless payments on your smartphone.

Q: How much will the My Business Mobile pilot cost?

A: The pilot phase is free for businesses that are accepted by Worldpay as pilot customers. We’ll cover your card transaction processing costs during this period.  We’ll cover your card transaction processing costs during this period but there may be other costs such as chargeback administration fees.

Q: What if I want to change my application after I submit it?

A: If you don’t want your application to be considered, please phone 020 3664 1629

Q: How do I download the My Business Mobile app?

A: If you’re accepted for the pilot we will send you a link to download the app after you’ve been boarded as a customer, as it won’t be available via the normal Play Store. 

Q: Which smartphones are compatible with My Business Mobile?

A: For the pilot, we will only be using Samsung S7 and the Huawei Google Nexus 6P. A handset can be loaned to you for the duration of the pilot, however we can’t provide you with a SIM. My Business Mobile needs an internet connection, so as a minimum Wi-Fi is all you need to take payments. If you want to add a SIM, you can also take payments over your mobile data plan.

Q: What is the maximum contactless transaction value on My Business Mobile?

A: Currently up to £30 for contactless card / Apple Pay / Android Pay payments.

Q: How do I take a payment?

A: We recommend a few practice goes before taking payments.  We can help you with this if needed.

My Business Mobile will show a flashing target on the screen of the phone when the phone is ready to accept a payment.

You then simply hold the card to the back of the phone behind this indicator.

We will provide training, tips and guides. 

Q: How long do payments take to reach my bank?

A: Payments usually appear in your bank account within four working days of you taking a transaction. 

Q: Can I make a refund using the app?

A: Yes, you can process refunds through the app once the transaction is settled (usually the next working day). Our pilot customers will receive a User Guide showing how to process these. 

Q: Can I cancel or void a payment after it's gone through?

A: As long as the transaction hasn’t settled, you can void it.  In practice, this means you can void transactions on the same day as you took them.  If the app doesn’t allow you to void a transaction then you need to wait for it to settle and then do a refund. Our pilot customers will receive a User Guide showing how to process these. 

Q: Can I see all my previous payments?

A: You will be able to see up to 6 months of transactions with the My Business Mobile app. You will also be given access to My Business Dashboard, which will have your entire transaction history.

Q: What if I delete the app or have a new device?

A: If you set up the device from a backup the app will be there, if you need another link to download please call 020 3664 1629.  

Q: My mobile device has been lost or stolen. Do I need to advise anyone?

A: Please ring 020 3664 1629 as soon as you can, so we can block your account and reset your password.

Q: What happens to my data? How are my card details sent? Where are they saved?

Q: What happens if someone steals a My Business Mobile phone?

A: All phones with My Business Mobile installed have to have a passcode to unlock the phone, and the app signs out after inactivity. If a business reports their phone stolen, we’ll block their account. 

Q: What payment methods can be used on My Business Mobile?

A: You can use any Visa or MasterCard contactless card, Apple Pay, and Android Pay.

Q: Can I get a receipt?

A: Yes, you can request either a handwritten or an email receipt.

Q: Am I able to pay with Cash?

A: My Business Mobile records Cash transactions as well as cards.
